Description
BICEP2 evidence for cosmic inflation. Results announced in March 2014 from the BICEP2 project showing the pattern detected in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) as evidence supporting the inflation theory of the Big Bang. Gravitational waves from inflation are predicted to generate a faint but distinctive twisting pattern in the polarization of the CMB, known as a 'curl' or B-mode pattern. The red and blue shading shows the clockwise and anti-clockwise twisting of this pattern in the night sky. The measurements were made from January 2010 to December 2012 with the BICEP2 instrument at the Dark Sector Lab at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.
